30 Pictures of Lauren Awesome

Simple things Lauren and Kayla do every day brings a smile to my face. With normal kids, you probably wouldn't even notice, you wouldn't even bat an eye. I know I missed these moments with Kayla when she was a baby. For example, I don't remember when the first time Kayla poked her own food with a fork, but I do for Lauren. Since the addition of Lauren to our family, we celebrate the inchstones, the milestones, and the smallest and silliest accomplishments of both kids. I have learned to remove my expectations for Lauren (and Kayla) and have learn to accept the unexpected. They will both unexpectedly surprise us in their own way. Lauren will undoubtedly do this on her own time.

Dip, invert, suck. Dip, invert, suck. I caught Lauren dipping her straw into her yoghurt drink, taking it out, and sucking on the dipped end. She did this over and over and over again. Its a "normal" kid thing to do, but it was such a nice surprise to see Lauren doing this for the very first time.

Fully bum sitting in the shopping cart one minute and the next minute Lauren is standing up in the shopping cart! She wanted out, and I guess if I wasn't going to take her out, she was going to try and do it herself. This was the first time I have ever seen Lauren do this...and it was awesome!

As you can probably tell from the picture, Lauren loves to eat very messily and she loves using her hands. Here she is using her spare rib to scoop the mash potatoes which we thought was quite clever of her.

Lauren puts on her own sandals!! She puts them on standing up and using a wall or piece of furniture to help with balance. We've been working on this with her all summer so we were happy to see when she finally figured out how to do it on her own (and wanted to do it on her own). We are still working on having her put her sandals on while sitting, but balancing on her bottom while using her hands has proved difficult for her due to her low tone - so we are trying to have her put on her sandals while sitting wedged into a corner (which will provide more support) allowing her hands to be free to manipulate the sandals.

30 seconds of voluntary parallel play..yay!!

Lauren takes off her own sock all by herself! Mind you this pair was a bit loose on the ankles, but nevertheless she was finally able to coordinate the pull with balancing on her bum.

Lauren finally gains the courage and confidence and climbs to the top bunk of Kayla's bunk bed for the first time.

As I love to cook and bake, I've tried to encourage Lauren to assist me in the preparation of meals, but she is usually not interested or lacks focus. This time, after some observation of her sister, she helped with putting the layers of the lasagna together with a smile on her face.
